Exchange City Counselor

  • Exchange City Summer Camp is for children and teens ages 10-18 years old. The camp was created as a response to the need for quality summer camps. The five-day camp targets skills in the areas of math, communications, analytical thinking, teamwork, citizenship, and personal finance. The campers are introduced to a 7,000 square foot of their own virtual city and given the task to set up a business and earn a profit in a real world based economic environment.
  • Assisted students in individualized and small group instruction.
  • Ensured Exchange City environment and other areas of instruction are maintained for the overall safety, care, and enrichment of the children enrolled.
  • Assisted students in using materials and equipment as well as organizing and running registration.
  • Educated students on proper check writing, economic highlights of the city, real world professionalism, and urban development.
  • Organized the weekly charity events where students raise money for a charity of their choice.
  • Taught in a classroom setting as a volunteer with Junior Achievement in the "Exchange City" preparation program, teaching students economic basics, check writing, and civic development.

 

 




 
Exchange City was created in 1980 in response to employers' and community leaders' concerns that students lacked the basic understanding of government, economics and skills needed for future roles in the workplace.

Exchange City is a hands-on learning program that combines an eight-week classroom curriculum with a state-of-the art interactive government and free enterprise laboratory. The Exchange City experience helps students learn and apply rigorous academic standards in math, civics, social studies. language arts and technology in real-life roles as citizens of their very own mini-town.
